Design & build
The shells of ZiiGaat Doscinco are made out of medical-grade resin and the color pattern on the faceplate looks nice. The shells are glossy and both faceplates have a company logo. The serial number and the model name are printed on the inside part of the shell.
The shells have one pressure vent located on the back of the shell. It’s covered with a mesh and is outlined with a plastic ring. The ring is blue on the left earpiece and red on the right earpiece. The 2-pin connectors are located on the top of the IEM.
Inside the shell, we have a carefully selected driver configuration – the 2 dynamic drivers working in an isobaric configuration, and 3 balanced armatures. Sonion 26A05 and 2354 drivers are responsible for the midrange and Knowles 33518 super tweeter for the treble. The configuration is arranged in a 3-way crossover.
The nozzles on Doscinco are made from metal. The nozzle diameter is almost 6 mm at the widest and overall the nozzles are on the longer side. There is a metal mesh at the end of the nozzle, and a lip that helps to retain the ear tip. Overall, this IEM has a solid build and looks, and I have no questions here.
Cable
The cable that comes with this IEM is 1.2 meters long. It has a straight 3.5 mm connector with Ziigaat logo on one end, and two 0.78mm 2-pin connectors on the other end. The cable connectors don’t have a letter channel indication, however the base on the right connector is red, and this helps with the channel navigation. The cable is soft and has a metal splitter. The pre-molded ear guides are soft too and a metal chin slider works well.
Overall this cable is good, soft, and low in microphonics. The only downside I noticed was the fact the connectors on my sample were very snug. Disconnecting the cable took some practice and patience so if you encounter the same, just don’t push it too hard or you’ll break it.
Fit & comfort
The ZiiGaat Doscinco shells are medium in size and have an ergonomic shape. The shells are well-polished and there are no sharp edges here. In my case the fit was good, and if you have small ears, you should still be able to find a good fit too.
The stock ear tips are good and quite soft, but I just couldn’t get a perfect seal with it so I had to do some tips-rolling. In my case, using Doscinco with the ear tips from Hype 4 provided a much better fit, seal, and isolation. I’ve been using IEMs for extended periods and the overall fit was very comfortable.
ZiiGaat Doscinco sound overview
Disclaimer: Please note that all sound impressions I share on my channel are completely subjective so please take them with a grain of salt.
At 16 Ohms of impedance and 104 dB of sensitivity, the Doscinco is easy to drive. I started my tests using an iPhone with an Apple dongle, which provided just enough power. But further on in the tests it became clear that this IEM scales with more powerful sources. So to fully utilize the drivers and the tuning, I recommend using a more powerful source. In short, this IEM has a very engaging tuning, with a crazy amount of bass and a rounded treble.
The addition of a second 10 mm dynamic driver in isobaric configuration significantly enhances the bass response, texture, and definition. The bass is fast and has good control. The sub-bass got an excellent extension, rumble, and authority. The mid-bass has got a lot of impact, punch, and body. The bass never sounded muddy, it’s very heavy, rich, and textured so the bass heads will be happy.
The midrange on ZiiGaat Doscinco is warm and there is some bass bleed here, making it very lush. Vocals and instruments are not too upfront but still have a good note definition. The vocals sound full, especially the male ones. Lower mids never sound thin, while the upper mids are textured, soft, and never shouty, making Doscinco a very forgiving pair of IEMs. Despite not being too upfront, the midrange still has good presentation and timbre. Overall the midrange here will appeal to those who prefer a warm and lush midrange over a sterile and dry one.
The treble extension is lacking some air and it’s a bit veiled according to my preference. It’s smooth and rounded, so treble-heads need to look elsewhere. In my case, it was never grainy or intrusive no matter what music I was throwing at this IEM. I wouldn’t call the treble veiled or dark, but if the soft rounded treble is your thing, you may as well like this IEM.
The details and micro details are ok, taking into consideration the amount of bass. This pair is not a detail-monster, but as it was designed to sound exactly like this, I think everything works as intended. The sound stage width is slightly above average in width, but not very tall or deep. Taking into consideration the smooth character of this IEM, playing games was also a great experience, especially the games with mediocre sound design. The overall presentation is quite open, yet it still falls short of some of the competition in this price bracket.
ZiiGAAT Doscinco vs ThieAudio HYPE 2 vs ThieAudio HYPE 4
Compared to Hype2, I think Doscinco is better value for the money, especially if you like bass. It costs slightly less, has 1 extra driver, and a more prominent bass. The midrange on Doscinco is much warmer, but the midrange on Hype 2 has a dry character which I like a lot. Treble-wise, Doscinco offers a slightly darker and softer treble presentation, making it quite a forgiving pair of in-ear monitors and a better choice for not-so-well-recorded and mastered music.
Compared to Hype 4 the clear winner is the Hype 4, despite the price difference. Doscinco has more bass and is warmer. But the midrange on Hype 4 has a more natural timbre and way more details. The treble of Hype 4 has way more air and sparkle too. In addition, the Hype 4 has a better soundstage depth and layering. This makes it a better IEM for me in every single aspect, except the mid-bass impact, where I would give a slight edge to Doscinco.
Comfort-wise both Hype 2 and Hype 4 have a better grip and feel much better in my ears, mostly due to their semi-custom type of shape.
Conclusions
Doscinco is a great value for the money. It offers a very engaging non-offensive and forgiving tonality which results in a buttery smooth listening experience. Add here a huge amount of bass with excellent control and rounded treble. This gives you a great combo that shines with many genres of music. If you seek a neutral-sounding IEM, with tons of detail, then you need to look elsewhere as Doscinco was designed to bring fun and excitement. And it’s very good at this.
Pros:
- Great value for the money
- Good fit & comfort
- Excellent 5-driver configuration
- Amazing bass response with good control
- Great sound coherency
- Rounded treble
- And a soft stock cable
Cons:
- Packaging and accessories do not correspond to the asking price
- The zipper on the case is clumsy
- And the connectors on my sample were way too snug
Overall Doscinco is a nice release in this price bracket offering a combination of a good fit, amazing bass response, and smooth tuning. I can recommend it if you want a rounded and soft IEM with lots of well-controlled bass.
